Bellocq's Ophelia

Bellocq's Ophelia - Natasha Trethewey

Persona poems are difficult, and when the writing is fraught with political and social implications, it's so easy for that persona to emerge as dogmatic and heavy. These poems, instead, while touched with melancholy and resignation, are delicately poignant and beautiful. Life is both sweet and disappointing.
